Having a good skin care routine is important amongst teens because it will prevent you from getting future breakouts and scarring. This is the time when lots of teens suffer from acne and skin problems. It’s important to know what products to use as a lot of people just apply any skin care products but actually don’t know what the product contains, which can cause problems later on.
Why use skin care?
There are a lot of reasons as to why using skin care is very important. But the few reasons to me that are very important are:
It will help your skin stay in good condition: throughout the day research has shown that everyone is shedding skin cells, but by keeping up with an efficient routine it can keep your skin glowing and in good condition and prevent acne and getting wrinkles in the future.
Boost your self-confidence: when you follow a skin care routine it will clear up your acne which will make your skin look better, and glowy and help with self-confidence
Prevention from breakouts and acne in the future: if you start a skincare routine early in your teen years, it will help prevent you from getting future breakouts
What products should you use?
A lot of people assume just by using a lot of products on your skin it will help your acne but actually it won’t help with acne at all and it might damage your skin too. Here are some products you should use (and in order too) to help reduce acne:
Cleanser: washing your face with a skin appropriate cleanser every morning and every night is a very important step in skin care, and especially to prevent acne. If you have dry skin try to use a cleanser without alcohol and if you have oily skin try to use an oil-free cleanser, it’s also recommended to rinse with warm water after.
Toner: using a toner can help smooth and calm your skin. Using a toner can help hydrate the skin, reduce pore size, reduce breakouts and protect the skin.
Moisturizer: using a moisturizer is very important after you wash your face, but if you have oily skin, it’s important to choose an oil-free or gel product.
Sunscreen: It’s crucial to apply sunscreen everyday even if it’s cloudy. When picking a sunscreen it’s important to choose a sunscreen that provides broad-spectrum protection and has SPF of at least 30.
Exfoliator: Using an exfoliator is optional, but if you opt to use one, it should be used no more than once or twice a week.
Serum: Could be used for redness, acne, wrinkles, and dry skin
You don’t need to use all of the products shown on this list but the most important are a Cleanser, Moisturizer, and Sunscreen. They can help reduce acne and prevent other problems in the future.
What are the side effects of overusing products?
A lot of young teens think just by applying a bunch of products everyday to their skin, that they will hydrate their skin and will prevent acne. But, a lot of the products used by teens have retinoids which is an anti-wrinkle product which young teens don’t need. These products are only used for mature skin which could damage young teens' skin. Other products used for mature skin that many teens use are: exfoliating acids, peptides, retinoids, and vitamin C.
Some side effects that they could get from using these products are rashes and breakouts which will continue to worsen their skin since they are intended for mature skin. As we can see, it is crucial that teens use the right products, intended for their skin as there are many products out there that are not for use by teens. Just by sticking to the few step skin care products mentioned earlier you will help your skin more.
What are some benefits of using skin care products?
Hydration: using skin care products will help hydrate your skin and will prevent it from dry skin cracking or becoming infected
Protection from sun damage: using sunscreen is very important since the UV rays can cause severe damage to your skin
Improved skin health: using skin care can maintain the health of your skin
Improved mental and social well-being: using skin care products and taking care of your skin can improve your physical and mental well being
Overall, using the right skin care products can have many positive factors. So using it in your everyday life can make a huge impact on your health.
